The whispers wake you at all hours of the night, breaking through your dreams and dragging you out of bed only to find no one else in the room. But you are certain a voice is calling to you.
Finally, as dawn spreads over your window, you follow the whispers to your library. To one particular shelf that has lain too long forgotten. It’s time to return to the Mansions of Madness.
I am thrilled to welcome new players and old fans alike back to the world of Mansions of Madness: Second Edition with a brand-new scenario! For those unaware, I am Grace Holdinghaus, a senior designer and resident expert on hybrid app games here at FFG. I was hired over 10 years ago to work on a fancy new edition of the Mansions of Madness game line, and then Journeys in Middle-earth and…well history is cyclical and I am back at the beginning, feeling like a world-traveler stepping onto my home soil after years away.
Turn of a Page is a new, wholly digital scenario that requires only the base game of Mansions of Madness: Second Edition to play, but it is also a narrative tie-in with the new The Drowned City campaign for Arkham Horror: The Card Game. In that campaign, a group of investigators returned from an expedition to R’lyeh carrying powerful new artifacts. Now it is up to your investigators to uncover more of the story, claiming those artifacts to defend Arkham against the rising doom. Whether you choose to play as both groups of investigators, or simply join us for Turn of a Page, surely, Arkham will never again be the same.
Our revival of this game line will offer a sizable challenge to the expert players who have spent years honing their investigative skills. Case in point, Turn of a Page has a 5-star difficulty rating and a longer playtime (120-180 minutes) to mark this new chapter. However, should a new convert venture into the unknown to defend Arkham, they will not be left unequipped. A unique 3-act scenario structure offers ample time to gear up to defeat the horrors that will come in the finale.
First, you and your fellow investigators poke through the mist-bound streets of Arkham as a mysterious sleeping sickness locks its citizens into unending nightmares. Second, you’ll locate the elusive esoterica shop owned by Randall Tillinghast, and obtain from him one or more powerful artifacts that could help you stave off the doom you feel approaching. Third and finally, you must survive a sudden trip through a portal torn through the fabric of reality, as well as waves of bloodthirsty foes. Just another case for the intrepid investigators of Arkham.
As in previous Mansions of Madness scenarios, Turn of a Page will feature multiple ways to vary the gameplay and map so that there is something new to discover every playthrough. This is the first time in this game line that we have been able to design a scenario from the ground up to incorporate all available expansions in meaningful ways (while keeping it friendly to groups that only have access to the base game) and I am proud that years of experience have empowered us to be more ambitious with our use of puzzles, items, and map elements.
All of this and more are reasons why I am overjoyed to present a new chapter in the Mansions of Madness: Second Edition game line. Massive thanks go to designer Brooks Flugaur-Leavitt for spearheading this scenario design and our Interactive team for tirelessly maintaining and improving the beating heart of this game. And, of course, massive thanks to all the fans out there keeping the candles burning, who make it possible for me to bring more of this game I love into the world. Stay tuned for more news about Turn of a Page and Mansions of Madness: Second Edition!
You can purchase Turn of a Page within the Mansions of Madness: Second Edition app or through your Steam client once the DLC releases this spring. All DLC purchases are now account-bound through AsmoConnect, allowing you to access your content from any device or platform!
